This month we are offering something pretty special. The 1997 Vintage Balblair. Unlike aged single malts (eg 12 YO), 'vintage' malts are made only from the stated year's barley harvest (in this case 1997). There is less blending and as a result more distinct character from the master distiller is revealed. As a result, vintage whiskies are only released when the master distiller is confident that it will stand on its own without blending across years. Jim Murray says of this expression; "Easily the most true to character distillery bottling for the last 20 years."

Nose: This full-bodied malt is fused with the aromas of pineapple, apricot and lemon to create a long-lasting sweet finish. On the nose, the American oak barrels used in the distillate's maturation produce an inviting, spicy fragrance.

Colour: Balblair 1997 is subtly amber in appearance with rose-golden highlights.

Taste: Hints of oak, spice and raisin combine with the sweetness of vanilla to create a long-lingering, creamy smooth finish on the palate.
